Clean and profitable technology!

Claranor’s Pulsed-Light Solution is a cleantech packaging sterilization process that uses no chemicals and no water. It has low energy consumption compared to conventional technologies and has a low carbon footprint.

The Claranor packaging sterilization has been certified by the Solar Impulse Foundation. This demanding label aims to identify and promote solutions that combine efficiency, respect for the environment, and economic growth. Learn more.

  • Its compactness allows it to be easily integrated into existing or new lines, even at high speeds.
  • High levels of decontamination are achieved, up to 5 log reduction in mold and bacteria.
  • And what’s more, with these low operating and maintenance costs, it’s economical  Request for comparative cost & feasibility studies

PULSED LIGHT: HOW DOES IT WORK?

The technology of pulsed light is based on the bactericidal effect of intense flashes of white light generated by a xenon lamp.

Principle

Energy is accumulated in a capacitor, and a high voltage signal sparks an arc in a xenon lamp. This arc sets off a flash of intense luminosity. The flash lasts 300 microseconds. The flash covers the entire white light spectrum, but is particularly rich in UV rays.

A dual effect on microorganisms

The performance of the technology on packaging surfaces is due to a dual effect on microorganisms:
• Denaturation effect on the biomolecules by the UV rays
• Strong and instantaneous increase of the biochemical effect with physical consequences (temperature and pressure rise in the cells) due to the high power of the flash (short duration – high energy).

The reduction in decontamination is certified by an external laboratory, Fraunhofer.

The power of one flash can be expressed as follows:

Energy of the lamp/flash duration = 300J/0.3 ms = 1MW

What types of packaging can be decontaminated by Claranor solutions?

Over the past 16 years, Claranor has developed a large number of sterilization solutions that can be adapted to a wide variety of packaging such as caps, films but also pharmaceutical syringe trays. There are 8 main categories of sterilization solutions dedicated to the food industry and 2 types of decontamination solutions dedicated to the pharmaceutical-cosmetic industry.

Our decontamination equipment for cups and lids

On linear or rotary production lines, Claranor’s compact equipment can be adapted to all types of packaging: preformed pots, FFS, trays, and lids.
Non-thermal, chemical-free, and dry, the Claranor solution for decontamination by pulsed light respects your packaging, even the most fragile, such as cardboard pots.

Our metal packaging sterilization equipment

For liquid or powder products, our equipment sterilizes cans, can bottoms, and metal or aluminum lids. Their high level of microbiological efficiency combined with their compactness and low energy consumption make them very attractive products.

Our sterilization machines for large containers

Large containers such as 10 L pails or 20 L bag-in-box bags give the products increased sensitivity. Packaging decontamination is necessary. Claranor decontamination solutions ensure instantaneous, surface, and athermal treatment. All types of materials can thus benefit from sterilization by pulsed light flashes: PE, PP, LDPE, PLA, composite, etc.

Our special machines

Our design office in collaboration with our microbiological laboratory develops customized machines to meet your specifications.

Our static machines

You have innovation projects and want to test the pulsed light technology. Our laboratory machines, which can be parameterized, allow you to carry out all your tests in static conditions: packaging, ingredients, materials, etc…

Our integration kits

You are an equipment manufacturer and you wish to integrate a pulsed light sterilization module natively into your production lines. Our teams will develop a customized kit for you. An economical and ergonomic way to integrate chemical-free decontamination on your filling lines.

Decontamination equipment for the pharmaceutical and cosmetic sectors

Claranor develops customized solutions for the decontamination of secondary packaging: trays, films, and bags; and primary packagings such as jars, thermoformed packaging, and bottles.

In which markets are Claranor Pulsed Light sterilization solutions already in use?

Claranor’s performance in the knowledge of the markets enables it to propose innovative solutions that adapt to the customers’ demands.

The food market

The demand in the food sector is very important given the diversity of products. Pulsed Light packaging decontamination solutions are therefore very popular. Solutions that adapt to your line speed but also to your product.
Naturally, sensitive food products require their packaging to be sterilized before fillings, including dairy products in jars or bottles, sauces in sticks, vegetable-based products in jars or bottles, or low-fat products such as margarine in trays.

The beverage market

In the beverage sector, it is also necessary to sterilize bottlenecks, caps, and preforms before filling. In fact, Claranor packaging decontamination solutions protect the organoleptic properties of the water and its source. Flavoured or modified waters are naturally more sensitive and therefore more prone to the development of bacteria and micro-organisms.
Pulsed Light sterilization solutions can also be applied to fruit juice, fresh fruit juice, and preservative-free fruit juice packaging, as well as to vegetable-based milk packaging, which is naturally more sensitive due to its composition.

The pharmaceutical and cosmetics market

The pharmaceutical sector has also already used Claranor’s packaging sterilization solution to decontaminate secondary packaging, in this case, syringe trays. Other projects developed or in development, to decontaminate primary or secondary packaging for the cosmetic and pharmacy industries are confidential.
